ABOUT
A composer/producer/drummer, David Santamaria fuses the worlds of electronic synthesis and traditional instrumentation. From the city of Montreal, this trilingual artist’s musical influences are extensive and span the globe, including Jazz, UK Garage, Trap, and Electro House.
Santamaria’s current release, “Waveforms” (2022) gravitates to groove-powered drum-machine sequences, syncopated basslines, and ethereal chordal passages combined with vocals centered on impactful dance rhythms and layered melodies. “I seek to solidify a form of electronic dance music that allows for improvisation, reflection, and ultimately the elaborate expression of consciousness,” explains Santamaria.
A natural percussionist since early childhood, Santamaria’s music career has included numerous public performances, including the Montreal International Jazz Festival and a “Rising Star” feature appearance at the Montreal Drum Festival, having also worked in Los Angeles. “My general approach to songwriting consists of composing and recording traditional instrument parts (including drums, guitar, bass, piano, voice), after which I apply a hybrid of analog and digital sound processing,” says Santamaria.
